1,015 Pieces done, 4,587 More To Go!

So, here is the update of our Dear Jane Quilts. We have worked on them for two years now. We have actually made progress! We looked through the book today and decided that some of the blocks that seemed so difficult to us a year ago actually look like they would be a snap! Of course, until we make them, we won't know for sure! We are both going to take an applique class later this month to help us perfect our technique. Neither of us is too confident when it comes to applique, and this quilt has a lot of it in it!

On another note, one of my blocks disappears! I am going to re-do the little pink block down in the bottom right corner of this picture. There is entirely too little contrast to be able to even see it! The camera never lies! Last year after we took pictures, Elaine decided she did not like her blue triangles and has re-done them in a beautiful red fabric. We both like it much better. Making my one block over will be lots simpler than her making three triangles over!

I love our quilts! They are completely different! We are going to focus the next few weeks on making triangles. We would like to be able to say that we are one-third done and need to have at least seven more completed to say that! We may be slow at getting this done, but at least we are doing it! We felt very proud of ourselves when we were through taking pictures and took ourselves to lunch to celebrate! Maybe next year this time we can say we are half way done!

One Year! Whew!

This one is Elaine's quilt. It is a bit more vivid in person...especially the deep red row. We are going to go shopping next week for new triangle material. Deep red. It wasn't until we put it up on the wall that we noticed how gray the triangles were and how it would look better with deep red triangles. Oh well, we only made three triangles and we love to shop for fabric!

This one is mine. I think I really like it. I hate making the triangles! They are mostly paper-pieced and I am not very good at that at all! It takes all my concentration to sew them!

Hmmm...we should have pushed a little harder for our first year! hahahaha If we would have made 42 blocks it would have been a quarter of them. We didn't plan that very well. Then we would have had to make 13 traingles and we certainly didn't want to do that. There is a reason they come later...it's called a learning curve!

Next update will probably be at the six month mark. :)

Finally an update

We took these pictures clear back in November of last year. I think we had good intentions of posting them but they never made it to the blog. Notice that I still have to finish my applique on a few of the blocks. (They are all finished now!)

We have made a lot (hahaha) more blocks now and put together a storage system for them until we sew the top together sometime in the next 10 years. We have also made two of the triangles now. We will have to take a new picture of our 25 blocks finished!

A Few Of Our First Blocks

Here are our first blocks we made. Elaine's are in the top corner and mine are the bottom left. They are only 5 inch squares to this point. When we sew them together they will be 4 1/2 inches square. We think they are really cute! We are both using quite different fabric. Elaine's is more "Thimbleberries/Civil War Era" and mine is closer to the "Cottage/Shabby Chic" fabrics. It's still going to take us quite a bit of time to get this done. We are hoping to complete it before we die!!! hahaha

Dear Jane Quilt

Here's a picture of the Dear Jane Quilt that Elaine and I are working on. It only has 225 squares and 5006 pieces. I will write a bit more later and put up pics of our completed blocks. We are very proud of them!
